Oliver Jeffers

Oliver Jeffers … where do we begin … amazing author / illustrator springs to mind.

Imaginary Fred was our first PEPELT picturebook of the month in October 2018. If you check our ‘Themed Resources’ you will find all our ideas linked to this book. Imaginary Fred was written by Colfer and illustrated by Jeffers, here is a short interview.

Throughout the PEPELT year 2018/2019 we have mentioned a few more of Jeffer’s books. To begin with there was Lost and Found which was part of our suggestions for our October 2018 Friendship Theme.

Sandie has written a very detailed review, so have a look and some great teaching ideas on Teaching Ideas. Up and down is often considered part 2 and we recommended this book in our May Theme. Here is a video of Jeffers reading it.

And later, aligned with Earth Day, we suggested Here we Are as another suitable picture book for EFL purposes.

Review by Tatia: Published in 2017, Here We Are was written and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers for his newborn son. This book is a must for all Oliver Jeffers fans – I have used it in teacher education and have seen it in action in a number of primary English classes in the Netherlands with children 9+. It is a fabulous English teaching resource which offers primary English teachers, dare I say, endless possibilities. The below video with Jeffers explaining the background to this book.

There are also some very good resources available for this book on Teaching Ideas (CLIL) and the publisher has created a nice resource pdf with a focus on environmental literacy.
