1. Dasher written and illustrated by Matt Tavares
“Dasher is a brave little reindeer with a wish in her heart. She spends her days with her family under the hot sun in a traveling circus, but she longs for a different life – one in which her hooves tread in soft, cold snow under the glow of the North Star.”
The North Star represents home and freedom for this family of reindeer, and one day, Dasher seizes the opportunity to escape. The illustrations are rather spectacular in the way they express light, mood and feelings and transport the reader and listener to a different world. I am attaching the link to an activity kit which includes a range of activities – many activities centre on following your heart, helping others and being brave. You could also add create a class-project on the North Star.
So have a look, perhaps something of interest for your PELT lessons. Matt Tavares
2. Fox and the Star by Coralie Bickford-Smith
This story is about a Fox who lives in a forest. Star is Fox’s only friend and guides Fox through the forest at night. But one night Star disappears and Fox is all alone in the dark forest. Fox travels through the forest to try and find Star and embarks on a journey of discovery and courage. It’s the most incredibly illustrated picturebook.
Puffin / Penguin School have published a resource pack which we have download for you. Lots of art-based activities, have a look.
