STEP 1: Look at the Cover
| Look | What is the first thing you notice on the cover? Why? |
| Look | Describe the egg: colour and size. |
| Look | Describe the duck: colours, feet, head. |
| Predict | What do you think is in the egg? |
| Research | Find out what colour and size of eggs ducks lay. |
| Check | Look up the meaning of ‘odd’ and ‘hatch an egg’ in your dictionary. |
Step 2 and Step 3: Listen and Watch
| Part A | Listen and watch for general understanding and enjoyment. |
| Part B | Listen and watch again and answer the questions, pause and replay when you need to. |
| Which other birds are in the story? | |
| How does duck feel about his egg? | |
| What do the other birds think of duck’s egg? How does that make duck feel? | |

Step 4: Add your Voice
| Review | Watch the story again and remember the different birds. |

| Create | Draw crocodile with a new colourful scarf. |
| Personalise | What did you think was in duck’s egg? Did you think it was odd that a crocodile was in the egg? |
| Observe | Look out of your window, can you see any birds? If so, which ones? |
| Research | What other creatures lay eggs? |
| Plan | Organise a mystery egg hunt in your home or garden. |
| Think | Write a short story about what you think happens next to duck and crocodile. |
| Your opinion | Which is your favourite part of the story? Why? |
Step 5: Share and Evaluate your work
| Share | Send your work to your teacher or share in your virtual classroom. |
| Evaluate | Complete the evaluation sheet to reflect on your learning. |
