Since October 2018, the PEPELT Team has been selecting one theme and one picturebook for nine months of the academic year. All four members of the PEPELT Team discuss picturebooks from four different angles.
Gail … has been working with picturebooks since 1989 when she set up Penguin Jeunesse, a publishing section of Penguin France. The Storytelling Handbook for Primary Teachers, co-authored with Jean Brewster and published in 1991, was republished in its third edition by the British Council, Tell it Again! in 2014. She opened the first Teaching Centre for the British Council in France in 1998, specialising in teaching children and teenagers, and was awarded an MBE for her services to the teaching of English to young learners in the Queen’s Birthday Honours Awards in 2004. She is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Children’s Literature in English Language Education Journal (CLELE Journal).

Tatia … taught EFL, EAP and ESP at a number of higher and further education institutions in London and is now a lecturer & researcher at the Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda (NL). In 2013, Tatia founded a successful not-for-profit project called The Little English Library ( www.littlelibrary.nl) which supports young English Language learners, speakers, and primary teachers in the Netherlands. The Little English Library project was short listed for a British Council ELTons Award in 2016 and for the School Library Inspiration Award in 2015. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from UCL IoE.

Sandie … has lived and worked in Portugal since 1987 and is a researcher at Nova University Lisbon. She has over 30 years of experience as a teacher, teacher educator, author and educational consultant, specialising in early years language education (ages 3 – 10 years). Sandie regularly researches, writes and presents about picturebooks and was the coordinator of ICEPELL (2019 – 2022), an Erasmus+ project about picturebooks for Intercultural Citizenship Education. Her blog, Picturebooks in ELT (active from 2010 to 2014), promotes the use and understanding of picturebooks with language learners of all ages. She is co-founder of the Children’s Literature in English Language Education e-journal (CLELEjournal) and was co-editor from 2013 to 2019.

Anneta … has been working with Picturebooks in teaching English to young learners for over 20 years. In her primary school, Szkoła Podstawowa nr 81 (Poland), she has run the programme ‘Our Reading School’ since 2009. This involves the extensive use of Picturebooks in English, reading to and with children (aged 6/7). Another programme, ‘Sharing Stories about Cooperation’ won the European Language Label in 2008, and is for children (aged 8-9) to attend a weekly reading club. Since 2001, Anneta has been the winner of the European Language Label four times
