19 November was World Philosophy Day
Another suggestion for picturebooks and philosophy is ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (Methuen Books, 1993). It’s a fairly popular choice for the PELT classroom, but has anyone included discussion around the philosophical issues of “the nature of well-being and adaptive preference” or “desire theories vs. objective list theories”. The Prindle Institute for Ethics outlines some really interesting activities, providing prompt questions to support children in discussions around “what is necessary for a good life and whether a high level of well-being can be attained by changing one’s desires.”
